Elections: Best When Participated In

Civic Engagement
January 2, 2015 Nathan Victoria NASPA

You’ve heard it before. You’ve possibly even seen it in print. But I’m here to tell you in online blog form that NASPA is its members. The staff in the central office would not be able to do what we do day in and day out without the help of engaged members, like you! (Yes, if you are reading this, then you are engaging with NASPA…Yes, even you lurkers….=D). But there are certain members that take their volunteerism to the next level by running for elected position, and today’s post is to highlight those individuals. From Knowledge Communities leadership, to the Regions, States, and Board Chair position, these leaders on their own campuses hope to become leaders within NASPA with your votes.

To vote in any part of the elections, you most hold an active NASPA membership as of January 5, 2014, have a valid email address on file, as well as be a member of the respective constituent group (KC, State, Region). Note that not every NASPA member can vote for every position as determined by NASPA’s bylaws. To ensure your membership is active and you are actually a member of the constituent groups, please visit the NASPA Member Update page or contact the NASPA office Monday, January 5.

Finally, although you can see the entire NASPA ballot on this webpage, I wanted to highlight one slate, specifically the two candidates running for the NASPA Chair of the Board of Directors. New this year, we have asked the individuals running for this position to film a short video highlighting who they are and their experience in NASPA. These two individuals are:

Nancy Papgano Crimmin, Ed.D., Vice President for Student Affairs, Becker College

Lori S. White, Ph.D., Vice President for Student Affairs, Southern Methodist University

Voting will be through an electronic ballot, and all individuals eligible to vote will receive an email on January 6. Elections will go through February 5, and the winners will be announced by the end of February. If you have any questions regarding the elections process, please feel free to contact me at [email protected] or comment on the thread below.

This post is part of the 15 Days of NASPA campaign. To learn more about this activity, as well as about the #NASPAshares Stipends, an opportunity for new professionals and graduate students to win registration and stipend money to attend the 2015 NASPA Annual Conference in New Orleans, LA, please see the blog announcement.

Today’s key word of the day is “I”.
