NASPA Foundation invests in student affairs

Financial Wellness
March 3, 2015 L. Lincoln Johnson University of Washington

This year alone, the NASPA Foundation will invest more than $90,000 in the student affairs profession through scholarships, grants and awards. Isn’t that outstanding?

I think it is because the student affairs profession is the only one that gives you the opportunity to observe students as they become assertive, aware and empowered leaders who are willing to take chances and learn from their mistakes. The opportunity we have as student development professionals to witness, and perhaps aid, the growth and development of students is a sacred trust that simply cannot be taken for granted.

The NASPA Foundation supports student affairs. And, supporting the Foundation allows you to:

  • Give back to the profession we love and respect
  • Invest in scholarly endeavors and innovative research
  • Contribute to best practices in our field
  • Validate student affairs as a significant force on campus
  • Reward young professionals with scholarships
  • Celebrate the work of remarkable colleagues
  • Invest in student success

I encourage you to think about those who supported and mentored you in your career and about those students in which you see great potential; making a one-time or ongoing contribution is a tremendous way of celebrating and honoring them and others. Be it a one-time $10 contribution from graduate students, $25 from new professionals, or something a bit larger from those well-established in their roles, the critical part is to start and sustain a culture of giving within NASPA.

Giving opportunities are numerous and include the NASPA Excellence and Research Funds that support research grants and scholarships, the NUFP Scholarship Fund that supports GRE costs for undergraduates pursuing a master’s program in higher education, the Melvene Hardee Fund that underwrites the Dissertation of the Year Award, and the James Rhatigan Fund that provides scholarships to graduate students to attend the 2015 NASPA Annual Conference.

More information can be found on the Foundation website. If you are ready to make a contribution, please visit the donor page. Please direct queries about giving to the Foundation to Amy Sajko.

I hope you will consider making a gift and enhancing the legacy of our profession.
