Disability History Exhibit
The Disability History Exhibit will be on display during Exhibit Hall hours of operation. The Exhibit Hall is located on the 3rd floor of the Convention Center, Hall A-B.
The Disability History Exhibit chronicles 3,500 years of seldom-told history. From antiquity to the present, the exhibit brings viewers through an illustrated timeline that shows society's attitudes and how these affected the lives of people with disabilities. The treatment of people with disabilities is approached from multiple angles including a moral, medical and social perspective.
The display was developed by Advocating Change Together (ACT) and was included in the Road to Freedom Tour that visited all 50 states. When the tour came to Alaska a decision was made to collaborate and purchase a copy of the display for purposes of increasing awareness at events and training sessions year-round. In researching the purchase it became clear that there was no accessible version of the content to share with those who did not benefit from the visual depictions. With this in mind an offer was made to ACT. The University of Alaska Anchorage Disability Support Services office would create an accessible version of the content in exchange for a reduced cost for the physical display. Agreement was reached and the physical display was complemented with an accessible online version.

If you missed the Disability History Exhibit when it was on display at the 2009 NASPA Annual Conference in Seattle, you are in luck, because the Disability Knowledge Community is bringing it to the 2012 NASPA Annual Conference in Phoenix.
