| This session will introduce participants to an undergraduate course designed to engage the student leaders of TEDxOhioStateUniversity in learning that connects the greater impact of their work through TEDx with leadership for social change. TED is a national organization committed to encouraging innovative ideas and dialogue and this course seeks to help students understand how to turn their passionate ideas into social change. The curriculum encourages students to connect theory to practice and challenges their assumptions about positional leadership by providing them with new paradigms and the opportunity to consider themselves as change agents at every level of the organization. The course also focuses heavily on collaboration, a key component of the social change model, by emphasizing the work that the TEDxOhioStateUniversity does to generate support from the local community and through the students work inside the organization to bring a TEDx conference to Ohio State students, faculty, and staff each year. Upon completion of the course, students will be able to apply the social change model of leadership to their work with TED and will have a greater understanding for their potential impact on the local community and the world. Participants in this session will have an opportunity engage in discussion with each other and will be able to see how TED videos are used to spark meaningful discussion through the modeling of a classroom exercise. In addition, they will leave with resources and ideas utilizing technology that can be applied in other classroom settings. |
