Help Shape This Year’s NASPA Conferences

August 30, 2016

This article repurposed from the 2017 NASPA Annual Conference blog.

Ever wondered how to add your perspective to shape the programming of a NASPA event? Did you know that program submissions are evaluated and ultimately selected for presentation by volunteers just like you? If you have been looking for a meaningful way to engage with NASPA, participating as a program reviewer is a low-commitment, high-impact way to start. Lucky for you, we are currently seeking volunteers from every professional level and functional area to help us craft several of our largest events of the year. Volunteer now to review programs for:

  • NASPA Annual Conference
    Volunteer by September 2
  • NASPA Strategies Conferences
    Volunteer by September 14
  • BACCHUS Initiatives of NASPA General Assembly
    Volunteer by September 29

As a program reviewer, you will be assigned no more than eight program proposals to review. All program reviews are done online, using a rubric that NASPA provides. Your recommendations and feedback will be centered on session content; session format and learning outcomes; presenter qualifications; adherence to proposal submission guidelines; and relationship to the conference topics. You can bring a peer education perspective, something that we value highly.

If you are interested in serving as a program reviewer, creating a profile to start the process is easy. Please log in to the NASPA Engagement Portal to complete your reviewer profile, providing us information to help the committee match you with the programs that align to your expertise and experience. You can continue to edit your profile throughout the year as you develop new skill sets and master additional focus areas. We are hopeful you will continue to enrich our selection process for other events with continued participation in this important capacity.

But, I submitted a program—doesn’t that mean I can’t review? Great news! You are also welcome to volunteer as a program reviewer. Individuals who have submitted a program proposal will have the chance to review programs that are not a direct conflict of interest with their own program submissions. You will not be able to review program submissions that list you as a presenter.
