Advisory Board Position Descriptions

Community College Division Chair 

  • Serves on the NASPA Board of Directors
  • Appointed for a two-year term by the Chair of the NASPA Board of Directors
  • Provides leadership for the Division at the national level
  • Ensures the community college mission is visible and infused throughout the Association
  • Serves as the Chair of the Division Advisory Board
  • \Supervises the planning of all activities held at the annual conference
  • Encourages participation of two-year professionals in NASPA programs, activities, publications and institutes, and all other professional development programs
  • Assists with the planning and serves on the faculty of the Community College Institute (CCI) and Student Services Institutes (SSI)
  • Attends the National Conference, and coordinates electronic conference calls with the Advisory Board at least twice a year
     

Senior Student Affairs Officers (5-7 board positions) 

  • Appointed by the NASPA President, in consultation with the division chair,
  • Will typically serve  a 2-3 year term, staggered so that there is returning representation among the SSAO each year.
  • Will chair the subcommittees of the Advisory Board, and work to implement the division goals and strategic priorities with the assistance of the RR and the faculty-in-residence.
  • Will help to infuse the two-year college perspective in all components of Division programs, publications and activities, by writing articles and submitting programs and encouraging participation of other Division professionals.
  • Will provide support for the Division professional development programs, specifically the Student Services Institute (SSI) and d the Community college Institute (CCI).
  • Will serve as faculty for Division programs and recommend faculty the Association events.
  • The SSAOs will support the regional efforts of the Division
     

Faculty-In-Residence (2-3 board positions)

  • There will be two faculty-in-residence on the Advisory Board.
  • The faculty-in-residence will typically serve a 2-3 year term, staggered so that there is returning representation among the faculty in-residence.
  • The faculty-in-residence will co-chair the subcommittee created for publications and research.
  • Faculty-in-residence will collaborate with the faculty of higher education administration graduate preparation programs to develop a research and publications agenda for the Division, and strengthen connections to area four-year universities to improve student transfer beyond two-year institutions.
     

Regional Representatives (7 board positions)

  • There is one RR from each region, appointed by the RVP in consultation with the Division Chair.  The RR will lead and coordinate the Division efforts within the regions.
  • Work with regional community college associations on cooperative ventures and issues, to included providing info on the division and the Association to community college publications and web-based journals.
  • Provide leadership,  and represent the Division at the regional l level, and ensure the mission is visible and needs known within the regional structure, to the RVP and the division chair.
  • Communicate to the RVP, CCEPS Director   and the Division membership within the Region, about the Association activities programs and institutes – to disseminate information as well as solicit input.
  • Assist in maintaining a listserv for communicating with Division professionals within the region.
  • Assist in maintaining the Division website keeping it current and making recommendations for updates.
