MISSION

To provide within NASPA professional programs, activities, services and initiatives to further the growth of professionals working in community colleges at each level - entry, middle management, and senior student affairs professionals.

Strategic Directions

  • Increase institutional membership of community colleges by 5 percent each year and increase individual memberships of professionals working at these institutions.

  • Increase communications between regions about the activities and trends at these institutions.

  • Coordinate a full-day pre-conference Community College Institute (CCI)at the Annual Conference.

  • Develop a research and publications agenda  reflecting the research findings  of studies conducted at community colleges.  Each year, the Division will insure a minimum of five articles/book chapters to be published in NASPA publications.

  • Develop and implement a leadership development program for community college senior student affairs administrators interested in taking the next leadership step toward the community college presidency.

  • Develop a Community College Awards Program to recognize the contributions to the profession made by community college professionals.

  • Develop best practices utilized in community colleges across the country and systems solutions for the challenges faced by these institutions that are sustainable for the next generation of community colleges. This would include best practices in the areas of enrollment management, orientation, retention, leadership development, workforce training, transfer articulation into four-year schools and academic advising.

  • Create a resource book to outline the skills and areas of knowledge held by community college professionals to insure their participation in national forums.

  • Welcome new professionals at community college member schools that join NASPA..

  • Increase the number of Student Services Institutes (SSIs) - the traveling professional development program for student affairs professionals at community and two year colleges - held each year.

  • Open a dialogue on current and critical issues faced by community colleges across the country, and begin to address those issues where we can make a difference.

  • Provide a "voice" at the NASPA table to present the concerns of community college professionals and insure communication of these concerns throughout the membership.

  • Develop partnerships with key stakeholders of community and two-year colleges to insure these institutions continue to receive the attention and funding they need to survive and accomplish their mission.

  • Inspire and empower professionals to make a difference in the lives of students who pass through community colleges, on their way to making life decisions about their futures, whether they decide to go into paraprofessional programs or pursue the baccalaureate degree.
