How Does Knowledge Management Impact Sustainability- Ben Dewberry, SKC Chair

This document contains new research regarding the intersection of Knowledge Management and Sustainability.  Specifically, the research is geared toward viewing knowledge management as a sustainability issue.  The research was performed in a higher education institution.  The research involves examining higher education institutions as systems.  Both Knowledge Management and Sustainability programs, strategies, and initiatives have arisen in response to systemic challenges in our world (and its organizations) are facing.  each of these, at their core, are meant to be developed and deployed to address these challenges systemically.  This research examines how an intersection of both Knowledge Management and Sustainability compliment and support one another in this effort.  This research is mean to aid institutions in addressing many of the pitfalls and inevitable failures that occur when our vision, design, and efforts are conceived without consideration toward the total impact on an institution.  This research contains a review of literature, a case study, and some philosophical inquiry.  Additionally, 10 areas of intersection are described that will help inform vision and strategy when considering sustainability efforts.
