Top 5 Priorities for Student Veteran Programs Best Practices

The Veterans Knowledge Community is rolling strongly from its first to second year. As a community that works to advance best practices for student veterans, the following priorities will be at the core of the work the KC does in the upcoming year:

  1. Priority registration for classes
  2. Priority enrollment for transfer student veterans
  3. Moving the School Certifying Official position from an administrative position to a student affairs position
  4. Implementation of assessment measures for veterans services on all campuses
  5. Integration of veterans issues into student government organizations.

The Veterans Knowledge Community is off to a good start and we would like to thank you for your interest. It's time to create areas of responsibility for individuals in order to have a successful community. At this time we are looking for several individuals interested in the KC to fill positions. See the "Get Connected" link on the left-hand menu.

We will also be establishing additional leadership roles within the community in other areas. The current version of the KC proposal and hot topics that was approved by the NASPA Board of Directors are under "Resources" on the left-hand menu.

Again, we are excited about the Veterans KC and look forward to hearing from you very soon!

Cheers,

Vision:

Through the work of the Veterans Knowledge Community, Student Affairs professionals will take a leadership role increasing awareness of veteran specific issues in higher education. Through the work of the KC, campuses will create an infrastructure that not only brings veterans in but also moves them through, and gives them the support necessary for degree attainment and future success.

Mission:

The Veterans Knowledge Community will advance Veterans Best practices through the education and activation of its members.

Commitment:

Members will communicate at local, regional and national NASPA meetings and at other veteran meetings as time allows (Department of Veteran Affairs, IAVA (Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, AHEAD). Technology will also be utilized to connect members and provide opportunities to share information.
