John D. Mikelson works with student veterans  at University of Iowa Veterans Center to help them receive all the benefits they are entitled to through the University, Federal, State and local governments.  He serves as a liaison between the University and Veterans/ Student Soldiers to better address issues specific to them.  SFC Mikelson retired from the Army after 25 years and has earned both a BA in History and an MA in Education Policy and Leadership Studies at Iowa. He has served as the Veterans Center Coordinator since the founding of the Veterans Center in December 2005. John is both a DAV  & American Legion Service Officer, ESGR Military Liaison, and was a founding member of the Student Veterans of America. He remains actively engaged in NASPA, NACADA, CEVHE, CCME and DSSHE-L discussions surrounding Student Veterans.
