Purpose

Benchmarking data for student affairs has long been a high priority for senior student affairs officers. NASPA, through a partnership with Bearing Point, has developed the first comprehensive benchmarking survey for student affairs.

The Student Affairs Benchmarking Survey has the following simple goals:

  • Provide good, reliable, peer supported Student Services Data.
  • Provide web-based analysis tools to customize results for each participating institution.
  • Provide access to survey data at a reasonable cost to encourage wide participation by institutional members.

The data, which needs to be submitted by each institution, will provide valuable insight into:

  • What your division does,
  • What resources you use,
  • The areas where your department excels,
  • The areas in which your division need improvement.

Using this baseline information, you will be able to create a context for fact-based decision-making, develop continual improvement initiatives, and track your department's performance over time.

Participatation

  • All higher education institutions may participate. All Institutions that complete the survey will receive a Custom report of their data compared with both the entire group of institutions that participated in the survey, and a smaller group of institutions that have similar student enrollment numbers. The data will be presented through metrics and measures in table and graph format.

  • All registered institutions that complete the survey also receive access to a web-based data analysis system that allows them to customize and generate institution-specific peer comparisons using the full survey data set. Users can create an unlimited number of comparison groups for peer analysis. They can use pre-defined ratios, or create their own ratios by combining any two data points from the survey. Results can be saved as slides, pulled into a slide show, or downloaded into excel for further analysis. This versatile tool provides unlimited access to the data base. And, this survey is "open" in that participants that register for the Unlimited Access Participation can view the data for every other participant.

Registration

To register, download the registration form and return it per its instructions.

Access is open to the Senior Student Affairs officer or his/her designee. By registering for the survey, you are stating that you are authorized to input your institution's data into the survey. Each institution's data will be able to be viewed by any participant that purchases the Unlimited Access Participation.

Access is open only to the Senior Student Affairs Officer or his/her designee. By registering for the survey, you are confirming that you are authorized to input your institution's data into the survey.

  • For institutions with less than 5,000 students, participation costs $300.
  • For institutions that have between 5,000 and 10,000 students, participation costs $500.
  • For institutions that enroll more than 10,000 students, participation costs $700.
  • Special Study Cost: Institutions that complete the survey can purchase a special study for an additional $100. The Special Study is a custom report that includes an analysis of the institution compared with a user-defined comparison group of peer participants. The analysis will be based on a standard set of measures and metrics - an expanded set as compared to the Basic Participation.
