The Community College Institute is a full-day professional development program providing extended learning opportunities in areas that are significantly impacting community college student services professionals.

This year’s CCI brings together national experts in Community College Student Engagement, Retention and Success. Professional staff from the Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE), which is a component of the Community College Leadership Program in the College of Education at the University of Texas at Austin, along with practitioners from three community colleges will present national findings on student engagement based on extensive research followed by overviews of specific programs and initiatives that their colleges have put into place based on the data.

This is a unique opportunity for community college student services professionals to have direct interaction with colleagues who have developed strategies to effectively address the challenge of student retention and success utilizing documented best practices in student engagement.

Learning Outcomes/Goals for Participants

    • The goal of this Institute is to gain new information, based on research and practice, of strategies for implementing significant programs to improve student engagement, retention and success.
    • Participants will understand the concepts of utilizing research data about student engagement for decision-making.
    • Participants will leave with tangible resources for future reference, including specific model programs that are in place at community colleges.
    • Participants will be able to apply knowledge and skills to their own campus programs.
    • The key to educating students for a life with purpose is doing everything possible to engage them in their education so that they are successful with their chosen program and become contributors to society

The program format will be presentations followed by discussions.
