2012 NASPA Doctoral Seminar

Everyone involved in doctoral study experiences face many transitions as they proceed through their degree program.  Transitions may be related to work, family, identity, role, and other aspects of one's life, and may be viewed differently at different phases of doctoral study.  A panel of faculty and doctoral students will discuss their experiences and the activities/strategies that will assist participants in meeting their doctoral student goals.  The seminar will include small group time to network with faculty and doctoral student peers.  Some of the topics covered will include:How can I avoid becoming an ABD?

  • What things can I do to increase my chance of success in graduate school?
  • What skills are necessary to successfully complete a doctoral degree?
  • What strategies are available to resolve difficult issues with my advisor/committee?
  • What opportunities are there to fund a dissertation study?
  • How do I prepare for the dissertation writing process?
  • How do I prepare for the administrative and faculty job markets?
  • How do I prepare for life after the Ed.D./Ph.D.?

This year's seminar is being coordinated by Dr. Tim Ecklund and Dr. Fernando Padro. There is no cost for this seminar; however, all participants must be registered for the 2012 NASPA Annual Conference and attend the entire Seminar.  Because space is limited, there is a selection process to attend the seminar. If you are interested in applying to attend this day-long workshop scheduled for Sunday March 11, 2012, please download and complete the application form and return it to Tiki Ayiku at tayiku@naspa.org by February 1, 2012 at 12:00pm (EST).
