RESOURCES

International Exchange Program

NASPA's international exchange program has been in existence since the mid-1990s.  The program is designed to expose administrators to global practices of student affairs and services.  The exchange program is reciprocal in nature where NASPA coordinates delegations from the USA to be hosted by institutions in other countries and NASPA sister associations coordinate delegations to visit the USA.  Delegations typically consist of 3-5 senior level administrators and are one week in duration.

The dates of the exchange are typically chosen well in advance and delegates must be available during the agreed upon time frame.  Once delegates are selected they are introduced to one another electronically.  There is one lead delegate who helps coordinate details of the exchange, such as gifts for the hosts, some communications, etc.  All NASPA "out-bound" delegates sign agreements to reciprocally host delegates from other countries at their institution, at their cost, at a later date.

Does international travel interest you?

Would you like the opportunity to visit with student affairs colleagues and learn how student affairs work is conducted in other countries?

Would exposure to other educational systems be valuable in working with your own international and study/work-abroad students?

If you answer yes to these questions, you join a growing number of student affairs professionals who are seeking opportunities to expand their knowledge of other cultures and to increase their professional contacts with colleagues from other countries. In response to this growing demand, and in recognition of the global nature of education, NASPA has initiated a number of international exchange programs for NASPA members. The first NASPA international exchange occurred in September 1996, when a NASPA delegation from the U.S. visited France, hosted by The Centre National des Oeuvres Universitaires et Scolaires (CNOUS). Discussions continue to occur with various professional associations/countries to explore expanding the portfolio of relationships that exist at present. Following are abbreviated lists of existing international exchange partners and U.S. host institutions:
