Program Overview

What are the factors that contribute to the African American college student experience, and how do these factors impact their academic achievement, persistence and graduation rates?  What should be included in the academic environments that provide and produce the optimal success for African American Students?  This two-day workshop will examine the success of African American students, discuss the gaps, if any, in achievement and the environments where these students excel at predominantly white institutions and Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

What is the impact of close relationships with faculty and staff, participation in student organizations, mentoring and influence from family and friends on student success?  Join us in Atlanta for this open and honest dialogue about the impact of student affairs professionals on engaging and supporting African American College Students to degree completion.  We will discuss the success of the African American Male and Female in College, take a look at the growing incidents of relationship violence, mental health issues that impact student success and discuss the need for assessment and evaluation to measure student learning outcomes.
