Women's Leadership Institute 2010

If you can participate in only one educational program this year, then the Women's Leadership Institute 2010 is the one! Be a part of a special program for women seeking to become senior leaders in higher education administration and student affairs. This year's program will have a special focus on being courageous in the workplace and features four plenary sessions and a choice of three unique breakout sessions. Donate to the 2011 NASPA Foundation Silent Auction

The Silent Auction is the NASPA Foundation's largest fundraiser. The event occurs annually at the NASPA Annual Conference. The 2011 Silent Auction will be held at the Annual Conference, which will be held  March 13-15, 2011, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Universities and individuals from around the United States donate items or services to be auctioned, and conference attendees have the opportunity to bid on them. The highest bidder on each item at the end of the allotted bidding time "wins" the prize. Individuals are welcome to bid on more than one item and may bid as many times on each item as they would like. Full Story

How was I going to get myself back in this routine after 4 years of not doing it? My supervisor told me I had nothing to worry about, that it would come back to me, like riding a bike. Little did she know, I never learned how to ride a bike, so that simile was not making me any less nervous. But I was given this fabulous opportunity; and I had to take it, no matter how rusty I was. NASPA Mourns Margaret May "Peggy" Elder
Margaret May "Peggy" Elder died on July 19, 2010, in Seattle, Wash., after a life full of accomplishments, which included serving as NASPA Journal editor from 1984 until 1987. The last three years of Peggy's life were complicated by pancreatic cancer. She was 71 years old.  Full Story

NASPA Honors Elinor Zimmerman Taylor
Elinor Zimmerman Taylor, 89, the longest-serving woman in the Pennsylvania General Assembly when she retired in 2006 after 30 years, died Tuesday, July 27, at a hospice in Stuart, Fla. Taylor also had an extensive background in student affairs.

NASPA Receives Lumina Foundation Grant to Create and Pilot National Survey on Student Services Expenditures
Building on the work of Webber and Ehrenberg (2009), which found that the strongest influence with the highest marginal effects on persistence of low-income and academically marginal students was an increase in student services expenditures, NASPA will develop and administer a survey to measure detailed institutional expenditures for student services programs. Full Story

President Griego Appoints Brooke Lecky Supple as New Chair of Center for Women
President Griego has appointed Brooke Lecky Supple as the new chair of Center for Women. Supple is currently the chief of staff for the vice president for student affairs at the University of Maryland. She obtained her B.A. from the University of Virginia, her M.Ed. from Vanderbilt University, and her Ph.D. in Education Policy and Administration from the University of Maryland.  Full Story
