Continuing the NUFP SLI Legacy
This year, Burlington, Vt., and the University of Vermont's Higher Education & Student Affairs (HESA) Program are home to five self-identified Asian and Asian American NASPA Undergraduate Fellows Program (NUFP) alumni. NUFP is a semi-structured mentoring program for undergraduate students wishing to explore and better understand the field of student affairs and/or higher education. It just happened that these five students, Lorriz Anne Alvarado, Jimmy Doan, Jennifer (JJ) Jang, Nathan Panelo, and Viraj Patel all participated in one of the special opportunities available for a select group of NUFP fellows — the NUFP Summer Leadership Institute (SLI).
On paper, SLI is just a four-day workshop focused on skill building and career development. But as you will see in the following video, these alumni, who represent three classes of SLI - Texas A&M University in ‘07, the University of Arkansas in ‘08, and Seattle University in ‘09 - gained so much more.
The 2010 SLI will be hosted by the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. If you are interested in continuing the legacy on your campus, the way that the previous host institutions did, by sponsoring the 2011 SLI, please contact Nathan Victoria, nvictoria@naspa.org, 202-265-7500 ext. 1163, or see an application.
