MASSACHUSETTS
ADVISORY BOARD POSITION DESCRIPTIONS
State Director:
- Responsible for goal/objective
setting for the state
- Integrates the state
into regional and other professional organizations' activities
- Works to increase membership
in the state
- Provides ongoing communication
with the membership about state activities and NASPA
Past Director:
- Supports, assists and
advises Director as needed
- Conducts transition meeting(s)
with Director
- Attends all meetings
and assumes the chair role in the absence of the Director
- Responsible for coordinating
nominations and elections
- Assists with the annual
award selection process
Secretary:
- Takes minutes at all
board meetings
- Assists in the preparation
of agendas for meetings
- Coordinates public relations/marketing
materials
- Arranges meeting sites
and works closely with host to coordinate (i.e. directions, food, parking,
etc.)
- Corresponds with board
and state members regularly, including meeting announcements, updates, etc.
- Submits one article per
year for the regional newsletter
- Purchases and maintains
supplies when needed
Social Events Chair:
- Coordinates social activities
for Massachusetts members (goal: one per semester and one at national conference)
- Works closely with secretary
to market programs
- Provides updates at regular
board meetings
Membership Services:
- Works in conjunction/consultation
with the Regional coordinator
- Coordinates efforts to
reach out to Massachusetts Student Affairs graduate students and professionals
- Provides updates at regular
board meetings
Liaison to Community Colleges:
- Works in conjunction/consultation
with Knowledge Community
- Works closely with Recruitment
and Outreach Coordinator to increase representation of community college professionals
in NASPA
- Coordinates programs
of interest to community college professionals
- Encourages community
college professionals to submit program proposals for regional conference
- Provides updates at regular
board meetings
Liaison to Professional Associations:
- Develops and cultivates
relationships with other state and regional professional associations that
have parallel missions to NASPA
- Collaborates with the
leadership of those associations on programs and activities
- Provides updates at regular
board meetings
Liaison to New Professionals and Graduate Students:
- Works in conjunction/consultation
with Knowledge Community
- Makes connections with
graduate programs in Massachusetts
- Coordinates programs
of interest to new professionals and graduate students
- Develops a mentor program
- Provides updates at regular
board meetings
Liaison to Senior
Student Affairs Officers:
- Coordinates programs
of interest to senior student affairs officers
- Develops an organized
network where SSAOs can meet beyond the regional conference
- Provides updates at regular
board meetings
Webpage Manager:
- Works in conjunction
with national office to continue to develop Massachusetts site
- Updates text regularly
(may include calendar of events, articles, pictures, etc.)
Public Policy Coordinator:
- Monitors legislative and regulatory developments affecting
higher education
- Informs the state membership about issues that might affect
their service to students and their institutions. Collects feedback
as appropriate.
- Collects information about state-level legislative initiatives
affecting higher education and informs colleagues at the regional and national
levels as needed.
- Attends/participates in state/regional meetings of the Public
Policy Division.
