Welcome to the Region III Tennessee website.  NASPA Region III and NASPA Tennessee need your membership, participation and leadership.   If you would like to be involved in statewide or regional activities that shape the student affairs profession, please contact me (Eric Hartman, Dean of Students at Sewanee: The University of the South) at ehartman@sewanee.edu.

NASPA Region III Needs Tennessee's Advisory Board Volunteers The State Director for Tennessee is recruiting for key leadership positions to the Region III TN Advisory Board.  Any member of NASPA is welcome to contact Eric Hartman (ehartman@sewanee.edu) and indicate personal interest in or nominate another in serving as one of the following:

  • Newsletter Director
  • Public Policy Representative
  • Graduate Student Liaison
  • Statewide Activities Director

UT Knoxville's Ready for the World The University of Tennessee has embarked on an ambitious plan to help students gain the international and intercultural knowledge they need to succeed in today's world.  Ready for the World is part of a long-range plan to transform the campus into a culture of diversity that best prepares students for working and competing in the 21st century. 

Rhodes College Student Associate Program Praised as National Model The May 8th issue of The Chronicle of Higher Education carries the following headline: "Rhodes's Work Program Gives Students Experience and Saves the College Money." The almost full-page article describes the Rhodes Student Associate Program (RSAP) that pays students attractive wages for performing professional services in offices around campus.

SACSA Conference in Nashville, TN - Nashville, Tennessee will be the proud host to the Southern Association for College Student Affairs (SACSA) in November 7-9, 2009.  For more information visit their website at www.sacsa.org

Sewanee's Living and Learning Communities Sewanee has completed their inaugural year of Living and Learning Communities as part of their first year experience.  While still a bit early to declare success, initial outcomes seem to indicate that participants in the optional experience when compared to non-participants are:

  1. achieving a higher overall grade point average
  2. applying for and securing key leadership opportunities
  3. experiencing fewer disciplinary challenges, and
  4. being retained in the college.

Vanderbilt University's Commons Wins State Environmental Award - Vanderbilt University's Commons campus recently received the 2009 Governor's Environmental Stewardship Award for the "Building Green" category. Vanderbilt University was one of 14 winners announced by Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation Commissioner Jim Fyke.  "These award winners truly have taken environmental stewardship to a new and innovative level, setting an example for all Tennesseans," said Gov. Phil Bredesen.

U of Memphis and Apple Hosted Major End of Year Recycling Effort - A major recycling event co-sponsored by Apple Inc. and the University of Memphis that resulted in tons of old and unused electronic equipment being properly disposed. 

CHASCo Searching for Tennessee Director - The Coalition for Safe and Healthy Campus Communities (CHASCo) is recognized nationwide as a model for effective state-wide coalitions of institutions of higher education addressing campus safety prevention issues.  The Tennessee Independent Colleges and Universities Association has launched a job search for a three-quarters time, exempt position to serve as the CHASCo Director.
