Regional Grant Program
NASPA Region IV-West welcomes proposals for new programs or research grants that support the discovery of new knowledge and innovation in the field of student affairs or increased learning and engagement among NASPA members. Special consideration will be given to proposals that address the priorities identified by Region IV-West through the survey conduct in May of 2011.
The following have been identified as these priorities:
- NASPA Undergraduate Fellows Program
- Graduate Student Support
- Access and Involvement in NASPA
- Knowledge Community Initiatives
- Technology
- Mentoring and Networking Opportunities
- Faculty Engagement
Consideration will also be given to proposals that include the Region's priorities and are conducted in any of the following areas:
- Student Affairs Leadership, Administration and Organizational Management
- Returning Student Veterans
- Student Mental Health
- Student Development
- Cost of Higher Education
- Student Affairs and Community Colleges
- Emerging Technologies
- Institutional Sustainability and its Implications for Student Affairs
- Globalization and Internalization
- Social Justice
- History of Student Affairs
- Student Success and Persistence
The Region IV-West Advisory Board has allocated $3000 for new projects/events and $2000 for research for the 2011-2012 year. Funding will be allocated based on the demonstrated/research need and submissions received. The Region IV-West Executive Committee will review applications on a rolling basis to determine funding.
Only one application will be accepted for a given project. Each submission should be no longer than 5 pages and a budget, submitted in 12 point font, with single-spaced pages, and containing the following:
1. A cover page identifying (one page)
- The program/research proposal title
- The developer's/primary investigator's name and NASPA membership number (the developer/primary investigator must be in good standing with NASPA)
- The team member's names and NASPA membership numbers (if applicable)
- Mailing address, email address, and telephone number of the developer/primary investigator
2. The purpose of the program/study (no more than four pages)
- Describe the event/activity for which you are seeking financial support from NASPA Region IV-West (include who will be invited, a description of the event/activity, the date, time, location, anticipated attendance numbers, purpose of the event, learning outcomes, etc.)
OR
- A description of the study which should include a brief summary of the literature review and its methodology and how it addresses and/or contributes to new knowledge or innovation in the field of student affairs
AND
- If the program/research addresses the regional priorities listed above, include a brief statement of how the it addresses that priority.
3. A full budget for the program/project and an indication of other sources of funding for the program/project if any have been solicited or obtained. Budget should include both itemized costs as well as a total dollar amount requested.
- The IV-West Advisory Board will only fund direct costs related to creating the proposed program/conducting the research project. (For the research project, this might include the costs of transcriptions, the purchase of instruments, the costs of a graduate assistant to help conduct the research, or the costs to travel to conduct the research). The Advisory Board will not fund the following: costs to travel to and from the NASPA conference or any other conference in order to present; funding for salaries of faculty or staff; a percent for institutional indirect recovery or overhead; or funding for gifts.
