On September 30, 2014, The U.S. Department of Education organized a conference call designed to inform administrators, faculty, staff, and students around the country about the importance of institutionalizing efforts on college campuses to get more students registered and voting. Under-Secretary Martha Kanter led a discussion of partners that highlighted specific strategies for getting more students to participate in our democracy through voting. Dr. Frank Ardaiolo, Vice President for Student Life at Winthrop University, a Lead Consulting Institution, presented on behalf of NASPA and shared how student affairs educators can promote student voting. The call followed the Department’s "Dear Colleague" letter reminding them of their obligation under the Higher Education Act to provide voter registration forms to students.
