African-American Concerns: Survey Reveals Need for More Professional Support
The first installment of the February NetResults is available on NASPA's Web site. A critical piece of the success of the annual conference is the time volunteered by conference facilitators. Volunteers are needed to help with registration, hospitality, programs, career services, and a variety of other services. International Assessment & Retention Conference — Call For Programs Deadline Friday, Feb. 10th NASPA will present the International Higher Education Assessment & Retention Conference, June 16 - 19, 2006 in Phoenix, Ariz. In an era of declining resources and greater accountability, state and federal legislators, accrediting agencies, trustees, and finance divisions are increasingly scrutinizing higher education. The higher education community, both in the United States and abroad, must create a culture of assessment dedicated to continuously improving student learning. This year's Assessment and Retention Conference has as its theme "Everybody's Job: Assessment, Accountability, and Retention in the Learning College." The Call for Programs is now announced! More Info MUFP Summer Internship — Application to Post an Internship Deadline Tomorrow! Institutions may now post information about their MUFP Summer Internship opportunities online. Last year, approximately 50 institutions provided eight-week, paid internships for Fellows, allowing Fellows to learn about student affairs at an institution other than their own and contribute to the work of that institution. Applications to host a MUFP Summer Intern are due by Feb. 10, 2006. Applications to post an internship must be completed and submitted electronically through the NASPA Web site. "This Week In Washington" is a service for NASPA members that provides the latest news on public policy topics relating to higher education. More Info Panel of Listeners Seeks Volunteer Mentors NASPA's Center for Scholarship, Research, and Professional Development for Women is seeking volunteers for the third year of the popular Panel of Listeners program. The Panel of Listeners recruits senior women leaders to meet (by appointment) with women attending the annual conference to provide coaching on a wide range of professional development and career issues. If you plan to attend the NASPA National Conference in Washington, D.C., and are willing to contribute one to three hours of your conference time to serve as a consultant/coach, please click here to sign up as a listener. Electronic Portfolio Research Deadline Feb. 28, 2006 National Coalition for Electronic Portfolio Research and its partners — NASPA and George Mason University's University Life Division and New Century College — invite you to participate in an exciting opportunity to work with other institutions to explore and document the use of electronic portfolios as a means of supporting students' in-class and out-of-class learning. Educational research documents repeatedly the importance of co-curricular, workplace, and personal experiences in the learning process. The application deadline has been extended to Feb. 28 2006. UPeers is a new online tool (kind of like Facebook or MySpace) that allows you to connect and network with other NASPA members. Outside the Classroom's "Ask the Expert" Teleconference Outside The Classroom is pleased to announce the second session in its 2006 Ask The Expert Teleconference series. On Wednesday, February 22 from 1 to 2 p.m. EST, Andrew Wall, Ph.D., researcher with the Center for Educational Studies in the College of Education and Professional Studies at Eastern Illinois University., will present "Online Health Education Curriculum Evaluation: Efficacy Among College and University Students." There is no cost to attend the teleconference. Future teleconference speakers include Patricia M. The University and the Jewish Community Summit 2006 Hillel invites you to join key representatives of the American Jewish community and select leaders of America's colleges and universities for an inaugural discussion of our common objectives: to strengthen Jewish life on every campus; to build strategic, cooperative relationships between community and campus leaders; to create meaningful leadership opportunities for young adults; to foster critical inquiry in regard to the Jewish campus community; and to transmit values and knowledge. Between 600-800 participants are expected to attend the Summit. Sessions will feature top university leadership and community experts. Individuals with an interest in strengthening Jewish campus life including lay leaders, college and university presidents, deans and vice presidents, Jewish studies professionals, academics, and students are encouraged to attend. The Summit will be held Sunday, May 21 through Tuesday, May 23, 2006 at The Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C.
