Colleagues: It is with profound sadness that we reach out to our colleagues, the students and the entire community at Virginia Tech. We extend our condolences to each individual who has been affected, both directly and indirectly by this horrific situation. This tragedy will have long-term consequences on our work in college and university communities. Alcohol & Other Drug Prevention Strategies Workshop – Early-Bird Registration: April 27
Alcohol & Other Drug Prevention Strategies: Effective Solutions for Higher Education will be held May 18–19, 2007, at Seattle University in Seattle, Wash. Workshop plenary speakers, concurrent sessions, and an NIAAA panel presentation will examine several issues, including involving students in prevention programs, Group BASICS, alcohol and marijuana intervention, and program assessment. NASPA Undergraduate Fellows Program – Deadline to Apply: April 30, 2007
The NASPA Undergraduate Fellows Program (NUFP), designed to increase the number of persons of ethnic-minority, persons with disabilities, and/or persons who identify as LGBT in student affairs and higher education, is now accepting applications. NUFP is a semi-structured mentoring program for undergraduate students wishing to explore and better understand the field of student affairs and/or higher education. Students and mentors apply as a pair, and if selected are provided the foundation to establish a semi-structured mentoring relationship at their institution. Students, once selected, are known as Fellows and are also given the opportunity to attend the NASPA National Conference, participate in a paid internship, and participate in the Summer Leadership Institute. Institute on College Males – Register Today
The Institute on College Males will be held May 23–25, 2007, at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Ga. This exciting new institute will bring together student affairs professionals to explore ways to engage male students on campus. Concurrent sessions will examine social justice; multiculturalism, diversity, and male students; men's health and wellness; assessment of men's programs; and men's development theory.

NASPA is co-sponsoring the first Learning Reconsidered Institute with ACPA, ACUHO-I, ACUI, NACA, and NIRSA June 6–7, 2007, in St. Louis, Mo., just prior to the International Assessment & Retention Conference. The Learning Reconsidered Institute has been created to help student affairs educators implement LR concepts, identify new ways to link current work to student learning, and support student affairs educators in the education and preparation of the whole student. National Conference for College Women Student Leaders – Send Your Students!

NCCWSL is an annual two-and-a-half-day conference providing college women the opportunity to enhance their leadership skills through meeting women of distinction; learning from keynote speakers; participating in workshops; volunteering their time in the community; and networking with other student leaders, as well as college faculty members and administrators. This year’s conference will be held in the nation's capital at American University June 7–9. Managing Off-Campus Behavior – One Day Workshop
NASPA, Stetson University College of Law, and NACA are collaborating on Managing Off-Campus Behavior: Responsibilities in the Modern University Riskscape. The workshop will be held July 7, 2007, at the University of South Carolina, Columbia, S.C. Presenters Peter Lake and Darby Dickerson will address such issues as disciplining students for off-campus behavior; managing off-campus activities and residential facilities; travel and transportation; cyberspace challenges; and liability-shifting mechanisms such as insurance, releases, and waivers. This workshop is a must-attend event for student affairs professionals concerned about law and policy implications of off-campus student conduct. More Info
James E. Scott Academy's 25th Stevens Institute – Now Accepting Applications
Senior student affairs officers (SSAOs) are invited to NASPA's premier professional development institute. Join a select group of experienced colleagues for an unparalleled personal and professional boost in an inspiring retreat setting. The Stevens Institute, named in honor of Richard F. Stevens, is a biennial leadership retreat designed for experienced SSAOs. The institute provides a small collegial environment in which participants can explore and reflect upon current and future challenges facing the field of student affairs and individuals in senior leadership positions. Law and Policy Issues in Housing and Residence Life
Registration is now available for the law and policy workshop Creating Safe and Responsible Living and Learning Environments. This one day workshop is scheduled for July 28, 2007, at the University of Hartford in Hartford, Conn. Presenters Peter Lake and Darby Dickerson will cover a variety of issues related to students living in their communities with a strong emphasis on policy implications. Such issues include alcohol and other drugs; sexual misconduct; mental health; non-discrimination; risk; and crisis management.
