The New SSAO Institute is a professional development opportunity for newly-appointed senior student affairs officers (SSAOs) to receive training and development critical to their new role. Participants will discuss a variety of topics that they may face while transitioning to their new position, and gain skills and tools with which to address these issues. The Institute also provides valuable opportunities for networking with colleagues. The Institute will be held in Washington, DC October 16 - 18, 2005. More Info / Register Nominations for Annual NASPA Awards Each year, NASPA honors prominent higher education and student affairs leaders for their contributions to the profession. The Selections and Awards Committee recommends award nominees to the NASPA Board of Directors for their approval. Upon approval, the awards are presented at NASPA's Annual Awards Luncheon which takes place during the National Conference. It's never too early to think about nominating your colleague or mentor for a NASPA Award! The deadline for Annual NASPA Awards nominations is November 1, 2005. AAC&U Integrative Learning Conference The Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) invites you to join us for a national conversation on fostering students' abilities to integrate learning—across courses, across disciplines, over time, and between knowledge and practice. NASPA is a cooperating sponsor for Integrative Learning: Creating Opportunities to Connect. This conference will feature approaches to integrative learning in a variety of contexts and from a wide range of institutional types. The program is designed to present unique conceptualizations about how students learn; signature pedagogies for nurturing habits of integrative learning; and discussions among leading campus scholars, researchers, and practitioners about ways to advance integrative learning across and beyond the campus. More Info / Register Manicur Symposium - Application and Nominations Now Available The 2006 Alice Manicur Symposium for Women Aspiring to be SSAOs will be held January 19 - 22 in Scottsdale, AZ. The Manicur Symposium provides an engaging and supportive environment for women to learn and reflect on their personal and professional aspirations. The Manicur Symposium is offered every two years and is designed for women who are contemplating careers as SSAOs and currently hold mid-level management positions and/or faculty appointments. Participation is by application only. More Info / Register NASPA to Assist Student Affairs Professionals with Implementation of Constitution Day Provisions On May 24, 2005, the United States Department of Education released guidelines requiring colleges and universities that receive federal allocation to implement programming providing education on the United States Constitution. The guidelines for implementation of "Constitution Day" programming, to be held September 17th of each year, can be found in the Federal Registry. NASPA is developing a Constitution Day Programming Implementation Guide that will be available soon to assist our members in developing innovative programming ideas.
