Are you a new senior student affairs officer (SSAO)? If so, don't miss this great opportunity to save money by registering early for the James E. Scott Academy's New SSAO Institute. The early registration deadline is this Friday. The New SSAO Institute is a professional development opportunity for newly-appointed senior student affairs officers to receive training and development critical to their new roles. Participants will discuss a variety of topics that they may face while transitioning to their new positions, as well as gain skills and tools with which to address these issues. Nominations may be submitted by individual NASPA members, family members, students, a NASPA region, a NASPA member institution, or other individuals associated with the student affairs profession. To nominate an individual to become a Pillar, submit a letter describing the nominee’s merits, impact on the field, or other professional contribution, including a description of his or her current position or last position held, to the attention of the Foundation Treasurer at the NASPA Office no later than September 15. The 2007 Pillars of the Profession will be announced at the ACPA/NASPA Joint Meeting in Orlando, Fla. On October 3, 2006 NASPA and the Association for Student Judicial Affairs (ASJA) will host an interactive and engaging live Web cast discussion titled The Risks of Risk Management. Dr. William Kaplin and Gary Pavela will define risk management and discuss related issues confronting our higher education institutions such as concepts for administrators working with students and working effectively with legal counsel. The NASPA Nominations Committee is looking for outstanding individuals who are leaders in the field of student affairs for the role of president-elect. Your nomination is valued as potentially influencing the course of our profession. Nominees must be professional affiliates (voting delegates are included) or faculty affiliates at a member institution and must have a record of leadership in NASPA and dedication to the association. Dissertation of the Year Deadline: September 15 The Hardee Dissertation of the Year Award is designed to encourage high-quality research relevant to the field of college student services administration and the general field of student affairs, and to recognize outstanding dissertation research conducted by doctoral degree recipients presently in or intending to enter the student affairs profession. Requirements: Entrants to the Hardee Award competition must have completed their dissertation and had their degree conferred between September 1, 2005 and August 31, 2006. More Info. All NASPA members are encouraged to enter recently developed and/or longstanding programs and initiatives for consideration for NASPA Excellence Awards. Submissions are due by November 1, 2006. Fred Turner Award for Outstanding Service to NASPA The Fred Turner Award for Outstanding Service to NASPA is named in honor of one of NASPA's most distinguished past presidents. This award recognizes NASPA members who have demonstrated continuous NASPA membership for 10 or more years and who have served in a leadership role at the state, regional, or national level of NASPA.
