U.K. and U.S. Senior Student Affairs Officers Agree on Important Competencies and Skills in Student Affairs

International Higher Education Assessment & Retention Conference - Call For Programs NASPA will present the International Higher Education Assessment & Retention Conference, June 16 - 19, 2006 in Phoenix, Ariz. In an era of declining resources and greater accountability, accrediting agencies, state and federal legislators, trustees, and finance divisions are increasingly scrutinizing higher education. The higher education community, both in the United States and abroad, must create a culture of assessment dedicated to continuously improving student learning. This year's Assessment and Retention Conference has a theme of "Everybody's Job: Assessment, Accountability, and Retention in the Learning College." NASPA, AUCCCD and the Center for College Health & Safety are co-sponsoring the second annual "Effective Interventions for Student Mental Health On Campus: Collaboration & Community." Dr. Harold Koplewicz, nationally recognized child and adolescent psychologist, Dr. Emil Rodolfa, director of the UC Irvine Counseling and Psychological Services, Dr. Donald Gehring, professor emeritus from Bowling Green State University, and Dr. Melba Vasquez, independent psychologist and division representative for APA are confirmed speakers for this event. (OTC) invite members of NASPA and their institutional colleagues to submit proposals for research on the efficacy of Population-Level Prevention using OTC's national aggregate dataset for approximately 100,000 students who completed AlcoholEdu for College, an online alcohol prevention program, in academic year 2004/2005. NASPA will grant three research awards of $2,500 each to qualified investigators who submit well-designed research plans. More Info Call for Programs: Promising Practices for Partnering with Parents The Parent and Family Relations Knowledge Community is calling for programs, services, and interventions considered to be Promising Practices for Partnering with Parents. Submissions will be published on the NASPA Parent and Family Relations Knowledge Community Web site. Deadline for submissions is December 31, 2005. Findings from an analysis of the submissions will be presented in a conference program at the 2006 NASPA Annual Conference in Washington, D.C. The Parent and Family Relations Knowledge Community identifies and shares current research and best practices, as well as opportunities for new research, in the area of college parenting.
