In an era of declining resources and greater accountability, state and federal legislators, accrediting agencies, trustees, and finance divisions are increasingly scrutinizing higher education. The higher education community, both in the United States and abroad, must create a culture of assessment dedicated to continuously improving student learning. This year's Assessment and Retention Conference has as its theme "Everybody's Job: Assessment, Accountability, and Retention in the Learning College." The Call for Programs is now announced! Please visit the NASPA Web site to submit a program! More Info Mental Health Pre-Conference Workshop on Suicide Prevention Suicide, and threats of self harm impact all campuses and student affairs staffs, causing anxiety for those charged with managing these crises moreso than perhaps any other campus life issue. Although preventing all campus suicides is not possible, there is emerging support for the effectiveness of some prevention programming. Two counseling center directors and a student affairs dean will detail evidence-based programs and describe their developments and successes. Just added to the Mental Health Conference: Mary Bolin-Reece from the University of Kentucky, and Dr. Donn Marshall and Dr. W. Houston Dougharty from the University of Puget Sound, will provide suicide prevention training including QPR and other effective practices, Thursday morning January 5, 2006. The Pre-Conference registration fee is $50.00. Participants must also be registered for the Mental Health Conference. More Info Membership
