Gender and Sexuality KC Intersectional Inclusion Award

The Gender and Sexuality Knowledge Community provides avenues for both social and professional involvement. We allow for personal and professional growth, increased awareness and acceptance of professionals and students, and promote understanding of professional and student needs.

Our community recognizes individuals, programs, and research that have made extraordinary contributions to the advancement of sexual and gender minorities inclusivity and education at the highest and broadest level. The awards aid to exhibit excellence and/or innovations that have added to the profession of Student Affairs and Higher Education and enhance the lives of their communities.

The Gender and Sexuality KC is currently seeking nominations for the 2019 Intersectional Inclusion Award. This is a new award for the 2018-2019 year to be awarded to one individual.

The purpose of this award:

This award recognizes a NASPA member that has supported inclusion in the Gender & Sexuality community, ensuring access, voice, acknowledgement, opportunity, and/or participation from people of multiple identities. This individual has called attention to the expansive, intersectional communities that make up the Gender and Sexuality community within the context of higher education.

Nominations are due November 09, 2018.

  • Addressing issues of injustice among people with intersecting oppressed identities through service, practice, and research, particularly of people with minoritized sexuality and gender identities
  • Engaging in community work that seeks to build bridges between the gender and sexuality community and other historically marginalized communities

Preferred Criteria

We encourage all NASPA members, especially those who do not have leadership roles within a NASPA Knowledge Community that is explicitly tasked with responsibilities of intersectional professional practice, service, and research to apply.
