A Blog Series For Peer Educator Advisors

February 16, 2017 David Arnold NASPA

THE FOLLOWING BLOG WAS ORIGINALLY POSTED BY THE BACCHUS INITIATIVES OF NASPA on February 6, 2017.

Peer education advisors are one of core aspects of the BACCHUS model or peer-to-peer programming, interventions, and campus-wide prevention initiatives surrounding the health and safety of college students. A team of BACCHUS Initiatives of NASPA staff, regional, state, and student volunteers have been discussing the best ways to support our advisors, so that quality peer education can be created, improved, and sustained.

One of the central ideas to be discussed was consistent engagement of our volunteers through a new, recurring feature on the BACCHUS Initiatives of NASPA page, the B-log. The B-log will feature quality advisor and staff perspectives on peer education advising to help your work on campus.

We are excited to feature topics in the next six months which will include recruiting and retaining fantastic peer educators, maintaining the momentum form an exciting conference, rebranding your peer education efforts, training peer educators, and advisor self-care.

You can make sure to keep your communication preferences up-to-date by signing in at naspa.org. Click the “Log In” button in the upper-right hand of your browser, and enter your username and password. You will then be able to “Edit Your Profile” and include BACCHUS Initiatives under Divisions/Groups in the NASPA Engagement Details.

We could not do the exceptional work we are privileged to do every day without you, the peer education advisors of chapters at a broad range of institutions of higher education. As a step into supporting your professional development, it is the sincere hope of our team that you will read, share, and participate in the B-log over the next six months.

This resource can supplement your attendance of a BACCHUS Spring Regional Conference, the 2017 BACCHUS Initiatives of NASPA General Assembly in Denver, CO, or other in-person professional development opportunities to embolden your work as a peer education advisor.

If there is anything else your BACCHUS Initiatives of NASPA staff and volunteer team can do to support you, the peer education advisor, do not hesitate to let us know by e-mailing [email protected]
