Announcing the 2019 Civic Learning and Democratic Engagement Meeting

LEAD Initiative
October 22, 2018

We’re looking for a few volunteers—maybe you?—to serve as thought leaders and planners as we wrestle with how best to convene a meeting intended to generate ideas and energy for tackling some of the biggest issues we face as a democratic society: social and economic injustice; bitter partisanship in our elections and governance; and diminishing funding for higher education, just to name a few.

Are you prepared to help frame and create space for the important discussions we need to have as a higher education community committed to preparing our students to be informed, engaged and voting agents of democracy? Please consider serving on the 2019 CLDE Meeting planning committee.  Opportunities to educate and advocate present themselves on our campuses and in our communities, and we believe this is an opportunity to come together as a profession to underscore our commitment to actively creating a more socially just society.

We look forward to catalyzing advocacy and education efforts with the help of our members to inspire and enhance civic learning and democratic engagement in Fort Lauderdale; particularly with the framing of our CLDE Theory of Change.

Our hope is that you’ll consider serving on the 2019 CLDE Meeting planning committee. Committee responsibilities include providing content advisory expertise to the program learning outcomes, program selection process, and member engagement initiatives. Interested applicants should send a current resume and a brief statement of interest to Stephanie King at [email protected] by October 31, 2018.  Selected participants will be notified of their participation on the 2019 CLDE Meeting planning committee in early-November.

We encourage you to share ideas to make Fort Lauderdale a positive, innovative, and catalyzing professional development experience for conference participants.

ADP and NASPA affirm our individual and collective commitments to social justice through year round education and advocacy. We look forward to the opportunity to educate and advocate at all of the Civic Learning and Democratic Engagement (CLDE) Meetings organized by AASCU’s American Democracy Project and the NASPA LEAD Initiative. Together we will make a difference by our presence and collective voice.
