Call for Applications: New Professional and Graduate Student Review Board

September 14, 2018

APPLICATION SUBMISSION DEADLINE: NOVEMBER 2, 2018

The Journal of Women and Gender in Higher Education (formerly NASPA Journal About Women in Higher Education) invites applications to join the New Professional and Graduate Student Review Board for the 2019-2022 term. The journal’s new mission focuses on scholarship that centers gender-based experiences of students, faculty, and staff while examining oppression, including but not limited to patriarchy, sexism, trans* oppression, and cisnormativity as they intersect with other systems of domination.  We are particularly interested in manuscripts that not only focus on a gender-based group but also critically interrogate the ways in which gender has been used as a construct to limit opportunities and shape outcomes and experiences. The journal publishes high-quality and rigorous scholarship that can be used by NASPA members and others to transform daily practice, research, and the field of higher education.

The editors seek individuals with a strong interest in research and/or practice that critically examines how gender impacts individuals’ experiences in higher education. The New Professional and Graduate Student Review Board generates a pipeline of reviewers and authors for the journal and is open to individuals who are new professionals (less than five years in the field) and graduate students. An orientation will provide support for individuals who would like to learn more about the editorial process and participate in manuscript reviews for the journal. Reviewers will be offered the opportunity for feedback on reviews as part of the developmental process.

Application Requirements:

  • Cover letter describing the applicant’s education, areas of interest (content and methodological), a paragraph describing why the individual is interested in the New Professional and Graduate Student Review Board, and what they hope to gain from the experience
  • Curriculum vitae or résumé

How to Apply:

Applications should be submitted online at http://apps.naspa.org/cfp/evt_frm_user.cfm?event_id=1003. Applications will not be complete without uploading a cover letter and a CV or résumé.

Selected applicants will be invited to attend an Editorial Board Meeting at the 2019 NASPA Annual Conference in Los Angeles, CA. New board members will be notified by December 2018.

Please circulate this call to colleagues who may have an interest in joining the Journal of Women and Gender in Higher Education New Professional and Graduate Student Review Board.
