“During the July 2016 Board of Director’s meeting our proposal to formerly change the name of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender KC to the Gender and Sexuality KC was approved. This change was made to continue to meet the needs of our membership and to be more inclusive in the work we do.
Six months ago, I started a new adventure into full-time business ownership. The first two, I spent thoughtfully contemplating who I am, who I am not and what I want for this next stage in my career. For as confident as I was about the decision to leave my full-time position in higher education and career development, I was afraid of the change that needed to be made. So how did I get here?
On Veteran’s Day I saw many posts on my social media feeds thanking military members and their families for their service and sacrifice. Sure, there were hard times, times of sacrifice. For me and my sister growing up this meant moving every few years and going weeks or months at a time without our dad present. But when I look back now, I don’t look back and think about the things they or I sacrificed; it was just our life, our normal. I look back with gratitude and appreciation for not only the service my family gave to this country, but also to all the opportunities the military life afforded me.
