April 15th Resolution Reminder

February 9, 2017

Dear Faculty Colleagues,

Many of us are well into our recruitment and admissions processes for the 2017-2018 academic year.   As has become the custom this time of year, we are writing to remind us all of--and to request that we honor--the April 15th Resolution which now appears in the CAS Professional Standards (2012) as:

Faculty members in institutions that are signatories to the Council for Graduate School’s Resolution Regarding Graduate Scholars, Fellows, Trainees and Assistants must comply with the April 15th acceptance deadline for graduate student admission decisions, including graduate student employment or fellowship offers made by the graduate program.

You can access the statement of the resolution as well as updated documents that were discussed at the ACPA and NASPA 2016 meetings at these links:

These documents have been approved jointly by the members of the ACPA Commission for Professional Preparation Directorate and the NASPA Faculty Council. Please review the information, share it with your student affairs practitioner colleagues and student candidates. As colleagues we hope you will continue to support this effort. You will notice the three documents have been crafted to target assistantship providers, prospective students, and faculty. It is our hope that based on the feedback and dialogue surrounding the resolution, these documents will be helpful during the recruitment process.

The Council for Graduate School's resolution is designed to support our students by allowing them time to make the best choice and find the best fit for their careers.  We hope everyone will honor this deadline even if our institutions are not listed on the Resolution document.  Once again, let’s act in the best interest of students in helping them find their place within our field.

Thank you!

Pam Havice, Director, NASPA Faculty Division
Danielle M. DeSawal, Chair, ACPA Commission for Professional Preparation
