Reina Salcedo is the Academic Skills Specialist at the Univ. of Illinois at Chicago and is the LKC Co-chair for Sponsorship & Fundraising - Special Interest Fund.
Why did you join the LKC?
During my first national conference, it was the only place where I felt at home and that reaffirmed that I was making the right choice to go into higher education.
Why did you choose your higher ed career path?
I always wanted to work in education and by being involved as an undergrad I realized that I could serve students beyond the classroom. If it wasn't for the support I got on campus, it would have taken me longer to get through it. As a first-generation college graduate, I wanted to ensure that I continue to be a support and advocate for students while they go through their own college experience.
Share with us a fun fact. It can be silly, funny, random, or anything you want to make it.
Surprisingly and against my best judgement (jajaja), I participated in two culturally-based beauty pageants. I was also part of a Quebradita dance group right after high school.
