Frequently Asked Questions

How much is the course?

The cost for this course is based on institutional NASPA membership (not individual membership status). For those at a school who is a NASPA institutional member the cost is $29 per student. For non-members the cost is $49 per student.

Can I pre-purchase registrations?

Yes, you may purchase as many registrations as you would like!

If I purchase registrations now, how can I purchase more seats later on?

You can go to your NASPA account and select the tab My Events. There you will see a category titled CPE Registration with a link to Register Students. You can then select the option to Buy More.

How is the course set up?

This is a self-paced, fully online course. Students can go through the material on their own and at their own pace, taking breaks as needed. Content is delivered through video lectures recorded by NASPA staff, with regular opportunities for students to apply knowledge and engage in reflection through quizzes, surveys, and short response questions.

How long does the course take?

The course should take students approximately 8-10 total hours to complete, given that they view all the videos and complete all activites thoughtfully and as instructed. Keep in mind that progress in the course will be saved, so students are encouraged to log out, take a break, and come back later or on another day and pick up where they left off.

What content is covered in the course?

The content for this version of the CPE course is the same as the content of an in-person, live CPE training (see list of included modules below). Many activities have been modified to fit the asynchronous delivery of the course, however the information presented has not changed.

  1. Understanding the Power, Roles, and Characteristics of Peer Educators
  2. Understanding Change as a Peer Educator
  3. Being an Effective Listener as a Peer Educator
  4. A Peer Educator’s Role as a Responder
  5. Bystander Intervention as a Peer Education Technique
  6. Intrapersonal Applications of Identity as a Peer Educator
  7. Programming Strategies for Peer Educators
  8. Group Development and Moving Forward
Do students need workbooks for this course?

No! Any worksheets or materials from the CPE workbook that are referenced or used in the Virtual CPE Training will be available within the course for download as stand-alone resources.

How does one access the course?

After completing your purchase you will receive access instructions via email, to the address associated with your NASPA account. If you didn't receive these or need them re-sent, please contact [email protected]

I am an advisor. How will I know that my student(s) have completed the course and passed the certification exam?

We recommend you ask that your students download their certificate of completion when they pass the exam and email it to you as a way to verify that they completed the course.

If I already purchased workbooks, can I transfer those over to spots for the Virtual CPE Training?

No, we only accepted transfers through June 30, 2020! Please email [email protected] if you have any questions.

I'm a student who wants to go through CPE but I don't have an advisor or peer education group. Can I still go through CPE?

Any student can become a Certified Peer Educator. If you do not have an advisor or a peer education group that is going through the CPE course you can go through our Virtual Certified Peer Educator Training - Independent Student course.

This is a self-paced certification course for Certified Peer Educator Training for students who are looking to become CPE trained independent from a Peer Education group or class.
