Hosted by the Latino/a, African American, and Student Career Development Knowledge Communities

The demographics of higher education are changing as the presence of students of color on college campuses continues to expand. College access, although under threat, has become a standard measure in determining an institution's commitment to diversity and a quality education. Although one can argue that the fight for access has been won, the struggles of retaining and graduating students, specifically students of color, has become Higher Education's battle of the 21st century. The achievement gap is very real. This year's drive-in conference, Chasing the Dream: America's Promise Recaptured, will not only aim to expose attendees to the struggles of the college experience of students of color, but exemplify the programs and initiatives which have been successful in supporting students of color and promoting self-advocacy.

Learning Outcomes

  • To provide educators with the knowledge, understanding, and clarity necessary to understand the continuing challenges that these populations face.
  • To encourage the utilization of self-advocacy for students of color.
  • To identify strategies for career and academic development and achievement.
