Dr. David Surratt
Interim Assistant Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs for Residential & Student Service Programs
Dr. David Surratt has worked in student affairs higher education for 15 years at both large public universities and small private liberal arts colleges across the country. He is currently Interim Associate Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs for Residential & Student Service Programs at the University of California, Berkeley. In this role David serves as chief housing and dining services officer and also oversees campus childcare and conference services. Since 2013 he has worked in additional capacities at UC Berkeley including Associate Dean of Students and Interim Dean of Students.
Dr. Surratt serves as part of the Vice Chancellor’s leadership team supporting strategic priorities, budget, and fund-raising strategies for Student Affairs. Additionally, he has created first-year seminar curricula for scholar athletes as part of the Chancellor’s Task Force on Academics & Athletics and has supervised UC Berkeley offices responsible for first-year student initiatives, sexual assault prevention and survivor advocacy, student legal services, crisis response, and protest and demonstration management.
Prior to joining UC Berkeley, Dr. Surratt served as Dean of Students at Rosemont College near Philadelphia, PA where he maintained oversight of all student life including housing, athletics, wellness & counseling services, student leadership & orientation, conduct, and disability services.
David holds a doctorate in Higher Education Administration from George Washington University and is also an alumnus of the University of Oklahoma earning a bachelor's degree in English Literature and a master's in Human Relations with emphases in organizational development and multicultural relations. Dr. Surratt serves as executive sponsor for the NASPA Undergraduate Fellowship Program (NUFP) at UC Berkeley and is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated.
