Luoluo Hong, PhD, MPH
Vice President for Student Affairs & Enrollment Management
The eldest daughter of Taiwanese immigrants, Luoluo (pronounced “lō-lō”) Hong is a passionate educator, courageous leader and energetic student advocate who joined the executive leadership team of San Francisco State University as the Vice President for Student Affairs & Enrollment Management on May 1, 2014. Starting July 1st, she was also designated the campus’ Title IX Coordinator & DHR Administrator. Prior to SF State, Luoluo served as Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at the University of Hawaiˈi at Hilo from January 2008 through April 2014, where she concurrently took on the role of Acting Athletic Director for one and a half years. She began her career at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge as a health promotion professional (1992-2000). Subsequent senior administrative roles have included Assistant Vice President & Dean of Students at Shepherd College (2000-2002); Dean of Students at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (2002-2005); and Dean of Student Affairs at the West campus for Arizona State University (2005-2007).
At each campus where she has worked, Luoluo has taught undergraduate and/or graduate-level courses and been an affiliated faculty member in a variety of disciplines, including Kinesiology, Educational Leadership & Policy Analysis, Psychology, and Criminal Justice & Criminology. Luoluo was also an Associate Professor of Women’s Studies at ASU and was tenured as an Associate Professor in Public Health Leadership & Education in UH Hilo’s College of Pharmacy.
Luoluo holds a BA in Psychology from Amherst College, a Master’s in Public Health from Yale University, and a PhD in Educational Leadership & Research from LSU in Baton Rouge. A nationally-sought after speaker and trainer in the areas of violence prevention, social justice, and leadership, Luoluo has delivered over 2,500 presentations, keynoted over 60 conferences and meetings, and authored several book chapters. Formerly a consulting editor for the Journal of American College Health (2000-2008) and recognized as a Fellow by the America College Health Association in 2006, Luoluo recently served on the Advisory Board for the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators’ Center for Scholarship, Research & Professional Development for Women and is now a member of the Women’s Network Executive Council for the American Council on Education’s Inclusive Excellence Group. She also completed a term as chair-designee for the Pacific West Athletic Conference from 2011-2013.
An alumna member of the Delta Kappa chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta, Luoluo has volunteered with numerous rape crisis centers across the country and with Kiwanis and the Chamber of Commerce in the East Hawaiˈi Island community. Luoluo is the proud parent of two rambunctious felines: a ten-year old orange tabby named Phoenix and a flame point Siamese mix kitten who loosely answers to Daario. Luoluo can occasionally be found masquerading as a level 110 human warlock in World of Warcraft.
