About

This event is intentionally scheduled at the end of the academic year to provide time to reflect on the year and interact in a safe setting with a knowledgeable and experienced group of colleagues.  The format for this retreat is informal and builds on issues and topics identified in advance by the participants. The agenda items solicited from the participants will be prioritized at the beginning of the retreat.

We are pleased to announce the Mike Segawa will be returning as the retreat facilitator. Mike Segawa is serving this academic year as the Interim Dean of Students after having spent the last 13 years in senior student affairs roles at the University of Puget Sound.  For the last 10 years he served as the Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students at UPS, a national, residential, liberal arts campus located in the beautiful Pacific Northwest.

Prior to Puget Sound, he was the Director of Housing at The Evergreen State College from 1995-2004 and the senior residential life officer at the University of Washington from 1983-1995.  Mike earned his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Irvine and a graduate degree in College Student Personnel Administration from Colorado State University.

He has been active in a variety of professional associations including NASPA:  Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education, ACPA:  College Student Educators International, and the housing profession's     ACUHO-I.  His leadership roles have included serving as the president of NASPA, chairing of a number of national and regional conferences, faculty roles for numerous workshops and institutes, and regional senior leadership positions.

Outside of work, Mike has tried running for the past 35 years and is a baseball fanatic with a strong affinity for the Seattle Mariners and his hometown team the San Diego Padres.  With both teams, there is always next year!
