About

Creating a Holistic Student Experience: Cross Campus Collaborations towards Student Wellbeing and Development

This conference addresses the role of Student Affairs in improving student wellbeing and development from a holistic point of view that brings all campus constituencies into the discussion. Student Affairs remains for the most part an extra-curricular component of the student’s education, and its integration into the life of the student remains challenging and questionable. This conference seeks to address the marginal role Student Affairs plays in the student’s experience, while at the same time reexamining the validity of those core concepts student affairs practitioners hold as pillars – engagement, leadership, student confidentiality, and others.

About our 2019 Host: The American University of Kuwait

The American University of Kuwait (AUK) is an independent, private, equal opportunity, and coeducational liberal arts institution of higher education. The educational, cultural, and administrative structure, methods, and standards of AUK are based on the American model of higher learning. The language of instruction is English.

Founded in 2003, AUK opened its doors to students in 2004 and is currently home to 2450 students and 300 members of staff and faculty from 40 nationalities. AUK offers 14 degree programs in Business Administration, Engineering, Social Sciences, and Humanities.

Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, is the international partner institution to the American University of Kuwait. Dartmouth and AUK have worked closely together since 2003 when the two institutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding that facilitated a series of advisory, consultative, and cooperative projects.

The AUK Campus is located in Salmiya, in the center of one of Kuwait’s most vibrant commercial-residential areas.

The campus has spacious, modern classrooms; computer, science, and language laboratories; an administration building, a state-of-the-art library, Music & Art Therapy rooms, cafes, an American-style diner, a bookstore, and recreation courts. A four-story student center houses recreational, athletic, administrative, and academic-support facilities.
