Presenter:

César G. Abarca, Ph.D. is a community organizer, scholar-activist, and urban farmer. He earned my interdisciplinary doctoral degree in Sociology and Social Welfare from Boston University, and BSW and MSW degrees from San Francisco State University. Dr. Abarca practices social work in multicultural, multilingual, and multiethnic communities in California, Massachusetts, and New Mexico. He is bilingual and bicultural, and his teaching experience includes: social policy, research, community projects, community practice, cultural concepts, and master's projects. He has taught in social work programs at the undergraduate and graduate level in Massachusetts, New Mexico, and California. His research interests are immigration (theory, practice, and policy), employment, community development and engagement, grassroots community organizing, ethnographic methods, and social movements. 

Dr. Abarca is currently Assistant Professor, Affirmative Action Representative, California Faculty Association, HSU Chapter, and Interim Faculty Coordinator: Scholars Without Borders, Center of Academic Excellence, Humboldt State University
