From thinking about how your personal and professional values will shape your career to how you can be a leader of change in higher education, this pre-conference is designed to support your journey while recognizing how you balance academics, career, service to the community, and your life outside of student affairs. We’ll also provide time for essential networking with NASPA friends and colleagues.
Please note that the Graduate Student Institute is designed for both masters and doctoral students who plan a future in student affairs leadership. We will focus our time on the following themes: becoming a student ready institution, managing institutional change, developing your personal and professional philosophy, leveraging power and politics, and creating a professional development plan.

Institute Goals and Learning Objectives

Registration Policies
Cancellation Policy:
The cancellation deadline is October 14, 2019. All requests for cancellations must be in writing and sent to Carmen Gold-Johnson at [email protected] A $50 cancellation fee will be deducted from your refund. No refunds will be provided after October 14, 2019. This program may be canceled or postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. In this case, fees will be refunded; however, NASPA will not be responsible for additional costs, charges, or expenses, including cancellation/change charges assessed by airlines, hotels, and/or travel agencies. NASPA is not responsible for weather or travel related problems and will not reimburse registration fees for these issues.

Substitution Policy:
Substitutions will be allowed until October 14, 2019, and are only allowed between registrants with the same membership type (member to member, non-member to non-member) and the same registration type (professional to professional, student to student). All requests for substitutions must be in writing and sent to Carmen Gold-Johnson at [email protected].

PARKING: Due to the hotel’s location in Downtown Portland, please note that parking is extremely limited. There is no self-parking at the conference hotel (valet parking is $52/night). You may wish to consider off-site parking options.
