Whereas, she is a steward of the student affairs profession, affirming her passion and commitment by sharing her knowledge and supporting initiatives; and
Whereas, she currently serves as vice president of student affairs and institutional diversity and inclusion at Champlain College inBurlington, Vermont; and
Whereas, she previously served as interim chief diversity officer and associate vice provost of student affairs and dean of student life at Oregon State University, dean of students at University of Southern Indiana, associate dean of students for community life at Mills College, and senior director of the office of diversity and inclusion at Champlain College; and
Whereas, she earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Brooklyn College, City University of New York, a master’s degree in counseling from the University of Vermont, and a doctorate in educational leadership from Nova Southeastern University; and
Whereas, her professional activities and affiliations include serving as board chair for the NASPA Board of Directors, executive officer of the Latino Caucus for the National Conference on Race and Ethnicity in Higher Education, chair for the NASPA Latinx/a/o Knowledge Community, member of NASPA’s Equity and Inclusion Commission, member of the 2016 NASPA Annual Conference Leadership Committee, and faculty member for both the NASPA Dungy Leadership Institute and the Escaleras Institute; and
Whereas, a sampling of her professional accolades include numerous publications and presentations, the NASPA Latinx/a/o Knowledge Community Service Award, the NASPA Latinx/a/o Knowledge Community Administrator of the Year Award, and the Spirit of the Eagle Award in Senior Administration from the University of Southern Indiana; and
Whereas, her community service includes serving as a member of the University of Vermont Medical Center Board of Trustees, a member of the Leadership Evansville Board of Directors, and a founding board member for Achievement U; and
Whereas, the breadth of her experience is rooted in a deep commitment to the students she continues to serve as well as to the student affairs profession; and
Therefore, in recognition of the high regard in which she is held by her colleagues across the Association, the NASPA Foundation Board of Directors recognizes Angela E. Batista as a Pillar of the Profession on this 30th day of March 2020.
