Christina M. Cortez has the privilege to serve as a Dean for Student Success over Enrollment Management and Academic Advising at St. Philip’s College our nation’s only Historically Black College and Hispanic Serving Institution. She has worked in higher education for the last 15 years serving in various roles in Student Success. Christina began her career as a Counselor at Coastal Bend College in Pleasanton, TX where she provided enrollment assistance along with counseling services when needed. She transitioned to a newly developed university in San Antonio, TX that has filled a need on the southside, Texas A&M University-San Antonio as a transfer advisor. She continued to build upon her career profile with employment at St. Philip’s College as a Student Success Team Leader assisting first year students with their transition into higher education. Christina began supporting the academic advising office in her role as Student Success Team Leader and enhanced her profile by assisting with the growth of dual credit and the establishment of various Early College High School programs at Palo Alto College. The experience above provided the necessary skill set for Christina to return to St. Philip’s College and stand up the AlamoADVISE model as Director of Advising.
Christina has Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, a Master’s degree in Counseling from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. She is currently pursing her doctorate degree in Educational Leadership at Lamar University. She currently serves on a Youth Transitioning into Adulthood (YTIA) board assisting youth from the foster care system to pursue their aspirations upon the completion of their high school diploma.
Christina is privileged to be married to her husband Jerome for 20 years and has been blessed with three children (Christian-19, Marissa-16, & Anessa-8).
