Whereas, he is a steward of the student affairs profession affirming his passion and commitment by sharing his knowledge and supporting initiatives; and

Whereas, he currently serves as associate vice chancellor/associate vice president for student affairs at University of Houston inHouston, Texas; and

Whereas, he previously served as interim vice president for student affairs at University of Houston Clear Lake, interim executive director of university career services at the University of Houston, director, campus center at Indiana University-Purdue University, and director, office of student activities, at Western Illinois University; and

Whereas, he earned a bachelor’s degree in personnel and industrial relations from Syracuse University, a master’s degree in higher education leadership from the University of Miami, and a doctorate in higher education and student affairs from Indiana University; and

Whereas, his professional activities and affiliations include serving as the research coordinator and chairperson of the Research Program Team with the Association of College Union International (ACUI), president of the ACUI Board of Trustees, regional director with ACUI, education coordinator for ACUI Region 9, vice chair for development of the AFA Foundation, chair and faculty member of the 2020 NASPA Institute for New AVPs, planning committee member of the 2020 NASPA AVP Symposium, faculty member of the 2017 NASPA Mid-Level Administrators Conference, member of the NASPA AVP Steering Committee, member of the Extension Advisory Committee with Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) National Fraternity, president of the House Corporation/Alumni Association with SAE National Fraternity, member of the Texas Council of Chief Student Affairs Officers; and executive director of the Western Regional Greek Conference; and

Whereas, a sampling of his professional accolades include numerous publications and presentations, the Butts-Whiting Award from ACUI, NASPA Region III AVP/Senior Level Student Affairs Professional Award, NASPA Region III James E. Scott Outstanding Mid-Level Student Affairs Professional Award, Chapter Advisor of the Year for Fraternity and Sorority Life from Indiana University Purdue University, Distinguished Service Award for Region 9 from ACUI; and

Whereas, his community service includes serving as a member of the St. Stephen’s Episcopal School Board of Trustees, and member of the United Way of Central Indiana; and

Whereas, he is a dedicated partner of eleven years to his spouse Steve, and together they enjoy spending time with family, relaxing on sandy beaches and exploring cruise destinations; and

Whereas, his breadth of experience is rooted in a deep commitment to the students he continues to serve as well as to the student affairs profession; and

Therefore, in recognition of the high regard in which he is held by his colleagues across the Association, the NASPA Foundation Board of Directors recognizes Daniel M. Maxwell as a Pillar of the Profession on this 30th day of March 2020.
