Whereas, she is a steward of the student affairs profession affirming her passion and commitment by sharing her knowledge and supporting initiatives; and

Whereas, she currently serves as vice president, Boulder County Campus at Front Range Community College inLongmont, Colorado; and

Whereas, she previously served as vice president of student affairs and dean of student success at Community College of Aurora, director of admissions and outreach at Metropolitan State College of Denver, and assistant research professor/director at University of Colorado Denver; and

Whereas, she earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from University of Northern Colorado, a master’s degree in administration, supervision, and curriculum development from University of Colorado Denver, a second master’s degree in psychology from American Public University, and a doctorate in educational leadership and innovation from University of Colorado Denver; and

Whereas, her professional activities and affiliations include serving on the editorial boards of the NASPA Journal of Student Affairs Research and Practice and the Journal of College and Character, member of the NASPA Community Colleges Division, chair of the NASPA Community Colleges Division Latinx/a/o Task Force, member of the NASPA Advisory Services Steering Committee, mentor to the FRCC Roadmap to Achievement Leadership Development Program, board member of the NASPA James E. Scott Academy for Chief Student Affairs Officers, and board member and institute director of the Academic Management Institute – Colorado Network of Women Leaders; and

Whereas, a sampling of her professional accolades include numerous publications and presentations, the National Research and Scholarship Award from the NASPA Community Colleges Division, Adjunct Faculty Award at the University of Denver, Morgridge College of Education, Student Success Center Visionary Award at the Community College of Aurora, Colorado Completes Award for the Student Success Center at the Colorado Department of Higher Education, and Outstanding Reviewer of the Year Award at the Advances in Developing Human Resources Journal; and

Whereas, her community service includes serving as a member of the Longmont Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, member of the Workforce Boulder County Board of Directors, member of the Longs Peak Hospital Foundation Board of Directors, and board member of the Downtown Aurora Visual Arts Program; and

Whereas, she is a dedicated partner to her spouse Frank J. Lucero, and together they enjoy traveling, seeing movies, attending the theater, and visiting new restaurants; and

Whereas, her breadth of experience is rooted in a deep commitment to the students she continues to serve as well as to the student affairs profession; and

Therefore, in recognition of the high regard in which she is held by her colleagues across the Association, the NASPA Foundation Board of Directors recognizes Elena M. Sandoval-Lucero as a Pillar of the Profession on this 30th day of March 2020.
