Whereas, he is a steward of the student affairs profession affirming his passion and commitment by sharing his knowledge and supporting initiatives; and

Whereas, he currently serves regional assistant vice chancellor of student affairs and student success/ dean of students at the University of South Florida, St. Petersburg inSt. Petersburg, Florida; and

Whereas, he previously served as vice president for student development, assistant vice president and dean of students at Seattle University, and assistant dean for conduct, policy and climate, director for the Center for Student Ethics and Standards, and special assistant to the associate vice president/dean of students at The University of Vermont; and

Whereas, he earned a bachelor’s degree in English literature from The University of California, Santa Barbara, a master’s degree in higher education and student affairs, and a doctorate in educational leadership and policy studies from The University of Vermont; and

Whereas, his professional activities and affiliations include having served as a faculty member for ACPA’s Donna M. Bourrassa Mid-Level Managers Institute, member of NASPA Advisory Services Steering Committee, chair of the NASPA Undergraduate Fellows Program Board, faculty member of NASPA’s Gwendolyn Dungy Leadership Institute, co-chair for NASPA Latinx/a/o Knowledge Community, and participant of NASPA SERVE Academy; and

Whereas, a sampling of his professional accolades include numerous publications and presentations, the University of South Florida Outstanding Staff Award, Bill and Melinda Gates Millennium Scholar, Outstanding Senior Student Affairs Officer Award from the NASPA Latinx/a/o Knowledge Community, University of Vermont Student Role Model Award, and honorary membership in Alpha Sigma Nu and Tau Sigma; and

Whereas, his community service includes serving as vice chair of the Community Tampa Bay Board; and

Whereas, he is a dedicated partner to Karen and proud parent of one amazing and powerful daughter Natalia; and

Whereas, his breadth of experience is rooted in a deep commitment to the students he continues to serve as well as to the student affairs profession; and

Therefore, in recognition of the high regard in which he is held by his colleagues across the Association, the NASPA Foundation Board of Directors recognizes Jacob L. Diaz as a Pillar of the Profession on this 30th day of March 2020.
