Jan Javinar is a proud alumnus of the University of Hawaii at Manoa and the College of Education three times over. He earned a Bachelor’s of Education with distinction in secondary education majoring in social studies, and has a master’s of education and doctor of education in educational administration with a focus on higher education administration.
Jan has held leadership positions in student affairs administration for over 30 years, including the last 24 years overseeing student life, student activities, and college union administration. Additionally, Jan oversaw financial aid, student employment, health education, and student activities at a community college for 3 years. He began his career in student affairs as a counselor and program coordinator in two federally funded projects for 3 years. Prior to his career in higher education, Jan had the unique opportunity of serving as a social studies classroom teacher in at least four different public secondary schools and has a number of years working in private industry with the former American Savings & Loan Association.
From October 2012-July 2013, Jan accepted a promotion as the vice chancellor of student affairs at UH West Oahu where he led a division providing student services to a growing student population, bringing direction as well as stability in personnel and program focus.
Jan became interim associate vice president for student affairs for the UH System on July 19, 2013 and served until December 31, 2015. Beginning January 2016, Jan returned to the UH West Oahu campus as a student affairs faculty member and serves as assistant to the vice chancellor for student affairs.
Professionally, Jan has been active with the Association of College Unions International (ACUI), receiving regional recognition for his years of service and with NASPA. He also provides facilitation and planning consultation for non-profits, governmental agencies, etc.
