Specialist Faculty Assistant to the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs
University of Hawai'i West O'ahu

Whereas, he is a steward of the student affairs profession affirming his passion and commitment by sharing his knowledge and supporting initiatives; and

Whereas, he currently serves as specialist faculty assistant to the vice chancellor of student affairs at University of Hawai'i West O'ahu inKapolei, Hawai'i; and

Whereas, he previously served as the  associate vice president at the University of Hawaii System, vice chancellor of student affairs at University of Hawai'i West O'ahu, director of leadership development programs at University of Hawai’i at Manoa, and director of student life and development at Honolulu Community College; and

Whereas, he earned a bachelor’s degree in secondary social studies, and a master’s degree and doctorate in educational administration from University of Hawai’i-Manoa; and

Whereas, his professional activities and affiliations include having served as a grant reader for the U.S. Department of Education Higher Education Program, Hawai’i sub-region chairperson and treasurer with the Association of College Unions-International, member of the NASPA Hawai’i Chapter Executive Committee, NASPA Journal Editorial Board member, and member of the NASPA Regional Conference Planning Committee; and

Whereas, a sampling of his professional accolades include numerous publications and presentations, the Sandra Kuchler Excellence in Mentoring Award for NASPA Region VI, Si Ellingson-Harold Bitner Award at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa Campus Center Board, George L.M. Lucas Award at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa Board of Publications, and the Don & Noel Hinde Distinguished Service Award at the Association of College Unions International Region 15; and

Whereas, his community service includes serving as a member of the Wallace Rider Farrington Memorial Scholarship Committee, textbook reviewer for McGraw-Hill leadership text, U.S. Senate Youth Program Committee member with the Hawai’i Department of Education State Selection Committee, and board member for the University of Hawai’i Federal Credit Union; and

Whereas, his breadth of experience is rooted in a deep commitment to the students he continues to serve as well as to the student affairs profession; and

Therefore, in recognition of the high regard in which he is held by his colleagues across the Association, the NASPA Foundation Board of Directors recognizes Jan Minoru Javinar as a Pillar of the Profession on this 30th day of March 2020.
