Whereas, he is a steward of the student affairs profession affirming his passion and commitment by sharing his knowledge and supporting initiatives; and

Whereas, he currently serves as professor and department chair, SAHE atIndiana University of Pennsylvania inIndiana, Pennsylvania; and

Whereas, he previously served as associate professor of education leadership at Oklahoma State University, associate professor of higher education and student affairs and assistant professor of higher education and student affairs at the University of South Carolina, and visiting instructor at Bowling Green State University; and

Whereas, he earned a bachelor’s degree in religious studies from University of Virginia, a master’s degree in student personnel services from University of South Carolina, and a doctorate in higher education administration from Bowling Green State University; and

Whereas, his professional activities and affiliations include having served as a member of the Board of Contributors for About Campus: Enhancing the Student Learning Experience with ACPA, member of the ASCA Core Competency Project, board member of the Raymond H. Goldstone ASCA Foundation, faculty member of the Donald D. Gehring Campus Judicial Affairs Training Institute, reviewer of the Journal of Student Conduct Administration, member of the Clery Center Advisory Board, NASPA historian and chair of the NASPA History Advisory Board, member of the 2019 NASPA Annual Conference Leadership Committee, advisory board member for the NASPA Law and Policy Conference, member-at-Large of the NASPA Faculty Council, editorial board member of the NASPA Journal of Student Affairs Research and Practice, and member of the NASPA Board of Directors; and

Whereas, a sampling of his professional accolades include numerous publications and presentations, recognition as an ACPA Diamond Honoree, Tracy R. Teele Memorial Award with ACPA: Commission on Student Conduct and Legal Issues, Faculty Recognition Award for Outstanding Leadership, Service and Teaching in the IUP College of Education and Educational Technology, Outstanding Mentor to Graduate Students Award with the ACPA Standing Committee for Graduate Students and New Professionals, D. Parker Young Award with the Association for Student Judicial Affairs, and Alumnus of the Year Award with the Higher Education Administration Ph.D. Program at Bowling Green State University; and

Whereas, he is a dedicated partner to his spouse Ute Lowery, and proud parent of one daughter,Margaret; and

Whereas, his breadth of experience is rooted in a deep commitment to the students he continues to serve as well as to the student affairs profession; and

Therefore, in recognition of the high regard in which he is held by his colleagues across the Association, the NASPA Foundation Board of Directors recognizes John Wesley Lowery as a Pillar of the Profession on this 30th day of March 2020.
